Sony DSC S730 Digital Camera

This is a simple and easy to use digital camera. It isn’t expensive and takes good quality images. It is for point-and-shoot purpose and for people who want to use the digital technology at a low price. This is a entry-level model from Sony and does a good job as a digital camera in its class.

Design:
The camera has a simple designing and the build is rectangular which has silver metal touch finishing. The camera weighs 140 grams, which is convenient enough to carry around easily. The size is a bit on the larger side to fit into pockets easily but nevertheless it can be carried around with ease. The LCD display is large and bright; the zoom button is on the backside top of the camera, followed by the control dial, menu button, self-timer and delete button.

Key Features:
The camera has a 7.2 megapixel resolution and takes decent quality images. It works well on the medium zoom and even on no zoom, but the maximum zoom isn’t that appealing but the images are bright. The red eye control does a fairly good job. The sharpness of the camera is commendable in this price bracket. The outdoor shots are clear and quiet crisp. Increasing the ISO (image sensitivity to light) to anything above 400 results in spotty images and this is the case with all the low priced digital cameras.
The camera is easy to operate and the functions are simple to use. The first image takes about half a second and it takes 5 images in almost 11 seconds. With usage of flash the first image takes around 1.50 seconds and 5 images in 15 seconds.

Cons:
This camera performs well in outdoor conditions but the indoors are a bit disappointing. The flash of the camera is not powerful hence the images lack the brightness indoors. Increasing the ISO of the camera results in grainy images, which is the case with most entry-level digital cameras. The flash recovery is slow and this results in elongated time taken for images using the flash option. The design and look is very simple.

Conclusion:
Overall Sony-DSC-S730 digital camera is better than most in the same price bracket. There are no such evident flaws in this camera and it performs well. It is good for beginners and for people who just want to point-and-shoot. It isn’t expensive and hence is a good buy

Sony Digital Cameras - Needs no warranty

Sony is a name synonymous with consumer electronics. Despite the failure of the Betamax format in the 1970s, Sony has made gigantic strides in the home video market ever since. Also, it is rare to find anyone who has not heard of or even used the Sony Walkman, which has totally changed our ways of enjoying music. Sony, as it stands today, has a whole range of amazing products in the field of electronic entertainment.
Sony has since made an amazing foray into the digital camera market. Sony cameras have become very popular both for their quality and high reliability. No surprise then that they now command a high market share in the digital camera market. As the brand name Sony is synonymous with quality and reliability, most of us are never in the habit of asking whether Sony products come with any warranties. Also, when buying a Sony product, we almost never ask about the terms and whether they have well after sales service and support. This is not surprising as malfunctioning of Sony products is so rare that we no longer bother about warranties.
However, any product (including Sony products) could get damaged due to unforeseen accidents. While all Sony products are designed to provide high quality results and are also robust enough to withstand environmental stress, unusually stressful incidents may result in product damage. Hence, filling out the warranty form as soon as you buy the Sony camera is a good practice as it covers the risk of your camera getting damaged.
Sony has always been known as one of the most trusted manufacturer’s for all of your electronic and entertainment needs. No matter what type of product it is, Sony has always been able to produce world class electronics without hardly any defects. And this is so true when it comes to their digital cameras. However, there is one digital camera of theirs that is full of features and is going to blow your mind. I am talking about the Sony Cyber-shot 7.2-Megapixel Digital Camera, Model: DSC-S700. This digital camera is surly going to blow your mind, not only with the image quality, but also with the price. Be expecting to spend around $150.00 for this amazing digital camera.
One of the features that make this camera truly great is the Super HAD CCD, which captures your images up to 3072 x 2304 pixels. Of course, this works wonderfully with the 7.2-Megapixels, which will give you breathtaking clarity in all of your pictures. Another great aspect of having a digital camera that comes with higher mega pixels is that if you ever want to “blow” your image up, say to an 8×10 or something like that, than you will be able to do so without sacrificing the integrity of your photograph.
Another great feature this camera has to offer is the ability to take continuous shots for action moments. This camera comes with a “burst shooting mode,” which captures 2 fps (frames per second) for up to three shots. This is perfect if you have children who play sports, of if you lead a very active lifestyle. Now you will never have to miss that perfect moment because they were running too fast. This camera also comes with the ability to record video. The video mode on this camera is absolutely amazing, you will be able to record videos in QVGA movie formats using 320 x 240 pixels, and can be filmed up to 30 fps.

Sony Cybershot DSC W200 Digital Camera

Is it possible for arguably the biggest electronic gadget manufacturer on the planet to produce a respectable digital camera for under $250? I’m talking about Sony here, and the camera in question is the Sony Cyber shot DSCW200 Digital Camera. The DSCW200 is an ultra compact digital, but is priced on the high side of that ultra compact category. Is it a worthy contender, or just a poser?
Let’s start off with the most important consideration of any camera… image quality. Not so respectable with the DSC-W200. Sony opted to go with 12 mega pixels in this ultra compact. Somewhat akin, to trying to squeeze an elephant into the passenger seat of your Mini Austin. Damn hard to do, and even if your successful, where are you going to drive with an elephant? Marketing hype aside, 12MP is complete overkill for an ultra compact camera. The majority of pictures from an ultra compact camera are going to be viewed on the LCD, or uploaded to MySpace and FaceBook pages. Nobody is looking to blow these up, frame them, and then hang them over the fireplace. 5 or 6 Mega pixels would have been fine. Probably better, as image noise would have been reduced.
For this price, I had bigger expectations from the DSC-W200 LCD. Unfortunately, it looks like Sony cheaped out here. 115,000 pixels for a 2.5 inch LCD is not great. It actually pretty grainy, and quite hard to view off angle, or in bright sunlight. As a basis for comparison, the top Canon cameras in this category sport 3 inch LCD screens with 230,000 pixel resolution. At least Sony did provide an optical viewfinder. Not a great one, but a viewfinder none the less.

sony cybershot digital camera

While this next quibble is minor I agree, I simply have to bring it up. The USB cable provided by Sony for the DSC-W200 is proprietary. I really hate being forced into buying a product that is produced by only one company. I like choice. Sony has a nasty habit of pushing proprietary technology going back to Beta Video, the Memory Stick, and now with the whole Blu-Ray fiasco. Not to say those weren’t good/better technologies, I just like choice.
But wait, that’s not all. Sony made enough slip ups with the CyberShot DSC-W200, to make even the most ardent Sony lover cast a flirtatious eye towards other suitors. Here are a few more reasons:
- The zoom lens doesn’t have enough zoom
- Excessive megapixels has driven price too high
- Time for flash to recharge is unacceptable
- Big handed users will find camera controls difficult
- Face detection is only available in auto mode
- Face detection works inconsistently
- Zoom feature won’t work when shooting videos

Like all the other Sony cameras, Sony DSC-S700 camera is sleek and compact in size. It fits in any pocket. It weighs only 130 gm.
Controls
Sony DSC-S700 camera uses a typical control layout, which is seen in most of the cameras in its class. The mode dial and power switch are on top. On the back you will find a zoom rocker. The zoom rocker is a switch with four controls and an enter key too. The four way switch button is used for various functions such as exposure compensation, flash, macro and self-timer; and image quality/delete, review, display and menu buttons. The buttons may sometimes be hard and flat to push. Thus the zoom rocker gives you access to all the important functions at one go. Simplicity at its best!
Key Features
2.5 inch LCD screen adorns Sony DSC-S700 camera. But this camera lacks an optical viewfinder. The lens has 3x zoom range. The many options offered in the menu are white balance presets. Evaluating metering is also included in it.
User friendly Aspects
Sony has added a nice touch by adding options such as Flash compensation and Single or Burst shooting options available in the menu itself. The best part about this camera is that it offers ISO sensitivity up to 1000. This means great pictures very time you click!
Performance
Sony DSC-S700 camera performs better than its other counterparts. It takes 2 seconds to capture its first shot. When there are no contrast problems and other difficulties with lighting, it can fire a shot in less than 0.8 seconds. Now that’s performance!
The shutter speed decreases to 1.1 seconds in dim light settings. When you click pictures with flash on, then this fast performer can click two snaps within an interval of 2.5 seconds only.
The picture quality of this Sony digital camera is best in its class. It beats its other counterparts on this point. Beyond ISO levels 200, you might get grainy pictures. So its better that you click pictures with lower ISO settings.
